Our Story - The Inspiration Behind Just Dont Send Flowers
Thoughtful Gifts Inspired by Love, Hope & the Desire to Help
At Just Don’t Send Flowers, we believe the most meaningful gifts are created from a simple feeling:
“I want to help.”
When someone you care about is facing cancer, recovering from surgery, dealing with illness, or simply going through a difficult time, it can be hard to know what to say — or what to send.
Flowers are beautiful, but sometimes you want to send something more personal. Something useful. Something comforting. Something that reminds them they are loved and not facing this alone.
That’s why we created Just Don’t Send Flowers.
Since 2015, we have specialized in thoughtfully designed get well gifts and cancer care packages created to bring comfort, encouragement, and even a little laughter during life’s hardest moments.
Every gift is carefully packed with items chosen for a reason — cozy comforts, practical essentials, uplifting messages, and thoughtful touches that feel like a hug from someone who cares.
Because the right gift can say everything when words are hard to find.
The Story Behind Our Name
Just Don’t Send Flowers began with our dear friend, Angie St. Gelais.
In April 2014, Angie was suddenly hospitalized and diagnosed with metastatic melanoma. Like so many people who hear that someone they love is seriously ill, my first thought wasn’t about buying a gift.
My first thought was:
“I want to help.”
I wanted to send something that showed Angie and her family how much they were loved and supported — something that could provide even a small amount of comfort during an incredibly difficult time.
But I quickly realized finding the right thing to send was harder than I expected.
When I spoke with Angie’s family at the hospital and asked what I could do or send, their answer was simple:
“Just don’t send flowers.”
That conversation changed everything.
I began researching and learned what many families discover during illness — traditional gifts are not always the best fit. Flowers may not be permitted in some hospital areas, fragrances can bother patients, and typical gift baskets filled with candy and sweets often aren’t what someone going through treatment or recovery really needs.
I wanted to send something different.
Something thoughtful.
Something comforting.
Something useful.
Something that showed, “I’m here for you.”
When I couldn’t find the gift I wanted to send…
I decided to create it.
And Just Don’t Send Flowers was born.
Gifts With Meaning
From the very beginning, our mission has never been to create ordinary gift baskets.
Our mission is to help people show up for the ones they love.
Every item we include is chosen with care — whether it’s a soft blanket for a day of rest, a tote bag for appointments, comforting self-care products, a heartfelt message, or something unexpected that brings a much-needed smile.
Over the years, we have been honored to help tens of thousands of families, friends, coworkers, and companies send thoughtful gifts when they wanted to do more than simply say:
"Get well soon."
We believe a gift should remind someone:
You are loved.
You are supported.
You are not alone.
Inspired by Angie
Sadly, Angie passed away shortly after her diagnosis, leaving behind her loving husband, four wonderful children, and countless family and friends whose lives she touched.
Her kindness, strength, and spirit continue to inspire our mission today.
Our Saint G. collection was created and named in honor of Angie St. G — a tribute to the beautiful person who inspired this journey.
What began as wanting to help one friend has grown into helping thousands of people send comfort, hope, encouragement, and love when it matters most.
From our family to yours, thank you for trusting us to help you care for someone special.
With love,
The Just Don’t Send Flowers Team
